Preheat oven 350 degrees F. Greased cookie sheets.
In large bowl, cream shortening and peanut butter; gradually add sugar and brown sugar, cream well. Beat egg and vanilla.
Sifting dry ingredients and add to creamed mix
Shape the dough into balls, using a heaped teaspoon for each ball. Roll the balls in the sugar and place them on a greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Top each cookie with a candy kiss, pressing down firmly so the cookie cracks around the edges.
Return to oven 2 to 5 minutes more, until golden brown.
